Ananda grew up amongst the beautiful mountains of Aspen, in the Colorado Rockies. Her parents owned a horse property, called Preshana Farms. During these formative years, many hours were spent at the stables with her horses, which she loved dearly. She spent most of her time riding for the pure joy of it, and also competitively, along with frolicking and playing with the fairies. At the age of 16, Ananda was scouted by leading modelling agency IMG, and within weeks began her carrier as an international model. This was an express pass entry into “the real world,” where she lived in Los Angeles, New York, Milan, Pairs, London, and Japan. It was around this time that she found yoga, as a way of reconnecting with herself, the nature deep within her soul.
At the age of 23, shortly after her departure from the industry, Ananda met her future husband Jim. They moved to Australia, where she again found her true character and calling in yoga. There she took up practicing everyday, and it became abundantly clear that this was her life path. Fortuitously, she found a teacher training with Annie Carpenter in Sydney, who was then in association with Yoga Works. Not long after, she opened a small donation-based yoga studio at the front of her house, which became Preshana Yoga. After some success, the studio expanded to a second location. In addition to holding space for countless individuals, so many dedicated and enthusiastic students, Ananda was privileged to host many highly skilled teachers for workshops and teacher-trainings, to whom she is forever indebted.
In the Hindu religious tradition, ānanda signifies eternal bliss, understood to be at very core of the human experience. Yoga is a practice aiming at conscious union with this blissful foundation of our being (Sat-Chit-Ananda). As such, yoga has been part of Ananda’s life from the time of her conception; however, she has been teaching yoga for 10 years, and practicing many more. Ananda is a dedicated SmartFLOW certified teacher and teacher trainer, who is known to teach with humour, grace, and technical precision. As a former yoga studio owner, Ananda cultivated community and culture of teaching and practice with the SmartFLOW methodology. Through many years of love and hard work, she instilled an indelible sense of curiosity and awareness in her teachers and students. Her dedication to the process and practice of yoga continues to remind us that life is in state of constant change. She believes yoga is deep listening, an act of physical and mental attuning, which increases the possibility for personal change. Yoga allows for a greater range of movement, so we might be able to adapt and grow in harmony with the moment.
