After practicing all different types of yoga for over 15 years you know when you’ve come across a special teacher. Ananda is one of those rare teachers with the ability to teach with ease, humour and technical precision all at the same time. She can sense what each student needs at so it feels like you’re taking your own private class. She also takes a genuine interest in both the physical and spiritual development of her students and that is what makes her a teacher that you cannot help but to gravitate towards.”
My first class with Ananda completely changed my view on yoga and sparked a sense of curiosity that I had not had before. She has an acute awareness and understanding of the body and movement, which she so clearing articulates. She explores movement and alignment seamlessly and effortlessly. Her classes will challenge you, work muscles that you never even knew existed but also leave you feeling completely energized and armed with knowledge.
I am blessed to have such a wonderful teacher who has taught me patience, inspired me and challenged me on so many levels. She is authentic and her passion is infectious.
Ananda has awaken my practice. Her presence in the yoga room draws attention to a person’s body, mind and soul. She teaches with passion in her heart. Her classes are never easy but her tough love for students pays off. Her constructive and detailed instructions brought me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to tap into the deeper layers of my body, which I haven’t noticed before. Ananda is definitely one fierce teacher you would never forget!
I have attended many of Ananda’s classes over the last few years, and I love to be her student whenever I can. Being a teacher myself I am discerning when it comes to attending a yoga class and Ananda is my favourite teacher in Sydney. She is one of those rare person who you know is meant to be a yoga teacher. She is young and yet she brings the knowing and maturity of someone who has been teaching for a long time. I wouldn’t say that she is committed to her practice, she loves yoga so much, it has become part of her, she lives it. She has a keen observation and a depth of knowledge that allows me to feel both seen and safe. She is casual and funny, yet strong and precise. At the end of her classes, I feel calm, centered, strong and open. Thank you Ananda…
I am writing this as a personal reference for Ananda Trettin. Ananda has been my yoga teacher for over 5 years, during which time she has guided me through a truly unique physical and spiritual yoga journey.
I had been practicing for many years, various styles of yoga, before joining Ananda’s classes, and was drawn to the sense of community she had nurtured amongst her students. She is welcoming and takes a genuine interest in each students’ journey. So much so, that her classes are an education as much as they are a practice, and she takes an interest in helping her students experience shifts in their practice. Her incredible knowledge of anatomy and her articulation of cues, ensure her students practice from a place of understanding and consciousness of their bodies.
My knowledge and awareness of physicality would not be what it is today without the things I have learnt from Ananda. Her practice itself is inspiring and she has been a mentor for me in my own practice.
She is extremely well respected in the broader yoga community. I have been fortunate, through opportunities Ananda has created, to practice under her own well respected teachers from all parts of the world. All of which, have a demonstrated a genuine respect for Ananda and the spaces she has created for her students.
I have no hesitation in recommending Ananda as an exceptional teacher, and along with many others will look to practice under her guidance as my yoga journey continues.
I have had the pleasure of working with Ananda since early 2014. Preshana was the first studio to bring international teachers to Australia, and through Ananda and Preshana I have participated in teacher trainings and workshops put on by the studio, including in a 200hr training with Naoh Mazé and Christina Sell, and a subsequent 200hr training with Annie Carpenter. In that time I found Ananda to be extremely professional in her commitment to the participants in the programmes and their learning outcomes: Ananda is extremely dedicated to her students, their learning and understanding.
Ananda is unique as a teacher: she doesn’t just simply take students through a yoga practice, but rather a learning experience to expand their understanding of yoga and their relationship with themselves. Personally, I feel like I have learnt so much through Ananda, far more than I have from any other teacher I have worked with previously. Ananda is a very special teacher, she really is a teacher’s teacher; under her mentorship I feel my own practice and teaching have blossomed and developed
Ananda is a very caring, sweet and nurturing individual.
I began practicing yoga as a beginner with Ananda five years ago. At the time I experienced frequent, severe migraines, back and neck pain and wrist pain which all resolved themselves within several months of attending Ananda’s classes. I have taken Ananda’s classes as a beginner, during pregnancy and after having practiced for some time and have always found her teaching to encourage me to both listen to my body and challenge my perceived limits. Ananda has a natural way of bringing together her own practice, her detailed anatomical knowledge and the philosophical ideas of yoga and utilising this combination to create themes in classes. I found practicing frequently with Ananda to be a very transformative experience and also appreciated her empathy and humour!
Ananda is among the best of teachers.
And the best of teachers constantly learn, grow, shift and expand.
I have witnessed and experienced this in her classes.
Her passion for the craft is infectious.
While guiding and prompting and encouraging with rigour, the element of play is ever present.
I have a strong hatha yoga foundation because of her diligence. For that I am grateful.
Ananda is intuitive and her classes uncannily sensitive to the current mood. She has challenged me to work toward my individual capabilities. Perhaps more importantly, Ananda has presented yoga in a way philosophically that can be taken out of the yoga class and into everyday life.
Yoga has been a practice that has supported me in many ways and my longevity as a student is testimonial to the support provided by Ananda and her school.
Ananda is a special teacher and unlike any other that I have had the privilege to study under. Her passion for yoga is evident in everything that she does and she walks a path of truth and understanding. Her classes are taught with a clear and thorough understanding of the body so that her students can have a fully visceral experience without the distraction of the chattering mind. She is able to weave themes into the practice in such a way that it enhances the asana and yet gives a deeper understanding to yoga as a whole. The thought and preparation that goes into her classes and the dedication she has to her studies means that she is ever evolving as a teacher and forever in service to her students.
